who we are

Most organizations in the criminal justice space advocate from the sidelines. CJLF acts.

Founded in 1982 and headquartered in Sacramento, California, the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation (CJLF)
is the only public-interest legal organization in the nation dedicated full time to
advancing criminal justice policies that protect public safety and uphold the rights of victims.

How We're Different

While many organizations comment, petition, or campaign, CJLF takes action through the legal system. Our work has helped drive precedent-setting decisions across the American judiciary — including the United States Supreme Court — all while operating with a fraction of the budget of larger civil liberties organizations.

what we do

CJLF works where it matters most - in the courts and through evidence-based policy.
