Sgt. Larry Lasater

Sergeant Larry Lasater was murdered on April 24, 2005, while attempting to apprehend suspects involved in a robbery in Pittsburg, California. After locating the suspects' vehicle, Lasater and other officers initiated an enforcement stop. During the encounter, one of the suspects opened fire, striking Sergeant Lasater. Despite the efforts of fellow officers and emergency personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.

Sergeant Lasater was a highly respected law enforcement officer, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, husband, and soon-to-be father. He had served with the Pittsburg Police Department for five years and was widely known for his dedication to public service, integrity, and commitment to protecting his community. His murder devastated his family, fellow officers, and the citizens of Pittsburg.

At the time of his death, Lasater's wife was pregnant with their first child. His son was born approximately two and a half months after his murder and would never have the opportunity to know his father. The tragedy resonated throughout California's law enforcement community and remains one of the state's most heartbreaking line-of-duty deaths.

One of the killers was sentenced to death. The second killer, Andrew Moffett, was convicted of murder and sentenced to Life Without the Possibility of Parole.
