Officer Isaac Espinoza

San Francisco Police Officer Isaac Espinoza was shot and killed on April 10, 2004, while patrolling the Bayview District with his partner. The officers contacted a suspicious individual who was carrying an AK-47-style assault rifle. Without warning, the suspect opened fire, striking Officer Espinoza multiple times. Despite emergency medical efforts, Espinoza died from his injuries.

Officer Espinoza was 29 years old and had served with the San Francisco Police Department for more than six years. He left behind his wife, Renata, and their three-year-old daughter, Isabella. His murder devastated the San Francisco law enforcement community and became a statewide symbol of the dangers faced by police officers every day.

The killer, David Hill, was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to Life Without the Possibility of Parole. The case drew national attention and became a focal point in California's debate over punishment for those who murder peace officers.
