Cpl. Ronil Singh

Corporal Ronil Singh was murdered on Christmas Eve 2018 while conducting a traffic stop in Newman, California. Singh, a respected police officer and immigrant from Fiji, had dedicated his life to serving his community and was working the holiday shift so younger officers could spend Christmas Eve with their families.

During the traffic stop, the driver suddenly opened fire, striking Corporal Singh multiple times. Despite suffering fatal wounds, Singh was able to radio for help and provide information about the suspect before succumbing to his injuries. The killer fled the scene, triggering a nationwide manhunt that captured national attention. After several days on the run, the suspect was located and arrested in Bakersfield.

Corporal Singh's murder devastated the Newman community and law enforcement agencies throughout California. He left behind his wife, Anamika, their five-month-old son, and a large extended family. Thousands attended memorial services honoring his life and sacrifice, and his death became a symbol of the risks law enforcement officers face every day while protecting their communities.

The killer was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to Life Without the Possibility of Parole.
