Alya Van Streefkerk

Alya was only 6 weeks old when her father Kevin Van Streefkerk brutally tortured and murdered her in June 2023 in Cameron Park, CA. Investigators determined that he repeatedly beat the defenseless infant over a period of time, inflicting catastrophic injuries that were captured in part on home surveillance video. In recorded confessions, Van Streefkerk admitted to multiple assaults, stating that during the final attack he "beat the living daylights out of her." Alya died at the hospital on June 18, 2023. Van Streefkerk later pleaded guilty to first-degree murder with a torture enhancement and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole (LWOP). At sentencing, the court described the crime as "especially heinous, atrocious and cruel.
